Bhai Dooj is a festival celebrated in the Vikram Samvat Hindu calendar or the Shalevahan Shaka calendar month of Karthika. It is celebrated in Diwali or Tihar festivals. This day is similar to the festival of Raksha Bandhan. On this day, sisters give gifts to their brothers. The day is celebrated as Yama island in the southern part of the country.
On the occasion of the festival, sisters invite their brothers to a sumptuous meal, including their favourite dishes and sweets. The process can be different in India and Bihar. The whole ceremony refers to a brother's duty to protect his sister, as well as the blessing of his brother.
The ceremony is carried forward in traditional style, and the sisters perform a six-ratt for their brother and apply a red ticket on the brother's forehead. This ticking ceremony, which is associated with Bhai Bij, indicates her sister's sincere prayer for her brother's long and happy life, and gives her gifts. Instead, the older brothers can bless their sisters and treat them with gifts or money.
In Maharashtra and Haryana, as the auspicious day of Bhava-Bijj, unbrotherless women worship the Moon instead of the moon. They practice Mehndi in their tradition. The sister who is unable to go to her brother's house, who lives far from her, sends her brother's long and happy prayers through the Chandra Devan. She runs for the moon. This is the reason why children of Hindu parents fondly call the moon Chandamama
